Hi Guys,

I read the forums on a regular basis to keep informed of what is new with the guild. Good to see you back Finnien!

I haven't decided for certain but when Cataclysm is released I am sure I will feel the pull to return to WoW.

In the mean-time I have been playing a free to play mmorpg called Runes of Magic. I tried out a bunch of different free mmo's such as DnD online and Aeria but this is the one I settled on and I have to admit that it is great fun.

Have any of you played it?

crasshole and i started up last night. i'm playing a mage/druid and he's got a warrior/rogue. pretty fun game so far (feels a lot like wow). i don't like the way they do mounts now that mine is gone will check for ya when i play next

Has anyone tried Fantasy Earth Zero? seems like one of those free mmo mini games but from SquareEnix.

I was surprised at your progress. Just one night and you were already 19/12 !

I didn't know how else to get this to you other than posting it here.

Some things I like about RoM:

-The interface is similar to WoW so it is easy to learn and you can get down to playing quickly without having to read a manual.
-The way gear is crafted with the arcane transmutor. Being able to customize each piece you wear to your own style of play. Stacking the right stats allows you to create incredibly powerful characters.
-Dual class system makes for a very wide variety of different styles of characters. All with strengths and weaknesses. Always wanted to play a tank that could heal himself? You can do that in RoM.
-The fact that not every piece of gear is soulbound. You can craft great things and pass them down to alts or friends when you grow out of them. In this manner items can develop their own story.
-The game is young. This means that there isn't information on every boss, or the best spell rotation or the best method for building aggro. There is no Elitist Jerks to tell you how you should play. You have to figure it out for yourself.
-Player housing and Guild Castles.
-It is free. There is no monthly subscription. If you spend money on the game it goes directly towards improving your character and playing experience.


Some things I don't like about RoM:

-Bugs. The game is young and Frogster doesn't have the same resources other publishers have. Still, they are doing a fairly good job at releasing new content and fixing the bugs. They are a profitable company so I'm not worried about their future.
-Customer support is limited. See above.
-Young kids. It is a free game so there are lots of them. I guess they have to learn MMO etiquette someplace.
-Goldsellers.. Yes the Chinese have found RoM and are selling gold here too. The company is fighting it however.


A few thoughts:

Right now the highest single target dps in the game is a scout. Also if you decide to play a Warden (pet class) as your main class you will probably find your end-game experience limited since most raids don't want them included. They have found the pets vulnerable to AE's from bosses etc and once the pet dies the Warden looses half his dps. I'm sure they will fix this at some point. That being said I have been told that the highest dps combination is a Scout/Warden due to the elite skills this combination of classes gets.
The best tanks are Knights, The best group healers are priests. The best single target healers are druids. Most groups prefer priests but I think it is because the druid is newer and people are not as familiar with them. The class combination that seems most capable of soloing bosses is Rogue/Knight or sometimes Knight/Rogue. Other classes solo bosses too however.

So far the game has been really fun. Rapha's guild's castle is fucking amazing, lots of really cool stuff that wow will probably rip off in the coming years.

I've had nightmares over some of the free-to-play mmo's over the lifespan of wow, but this one has been the best one by far.

so... I tried to sign up last night but this account creation thing has been not so friendly with me.

I enter in the stuff on the game's page, it tells me to do what the confirmation email says, I go and click the link and do everything that it says on the page but keep getting error messages

I decided to try it in IE and another email, got the same error message

I tried to just log in the game with the info I put in the site, but it says that the info is wrong

I have no clue how else to get this to work

I had some problems like this when I first tried to play as well. Being from Canada it set me up on a European server. I had to tell it I was in the US to get it to work on Palenque. I thought they had fixed that however.

On the client there is a Region/Language button. Maybe try playing with that?

If you still can't get it to work I can create an account for you. You will just have to change the passwords/email information after.

I can't do the confirmation for my account, so it's not letting it finish and be set up to use the game

It didn't work even when I tried a new email and new browser, so... yea

I click on the link in the confirmation email, and it takes me to a site... it has me fill out some captcha thing, and when I do that and hit the button it tells me it can't finish cause of error 102 whatever the fuck that is (it doesn't even tell you either). It does it for both of them, and this is turning into too much of a headache and I just give up.
